"He who binds to himself a joy
Does the winged life destroy;
But he who kisses joy as it flies
Lives in eternity's sun rise."

No Write Way 1
When people ask me “what is your novel about?” I get a little perplexed. A more valid question is who is it about? After all, a story is about people and their interactions, rather than a litany of their exploits, devoid of personality. This is what makes all literature, from science fiction in the 24th century to historic fiction accessible: the human condition is essentially the same. We face the same fears and have similar desires. The plot is simply a record of what happened when the motives of the different characters come into conflict (or accord.) Many (post)modern novels do away with the convention of plot altogether, but it simply can’t be a story without characters.

Charles Tart on "Consensus Trance" and Normal Human Consciousness
Here I want to present Tart's most central and personally important premise, which is essentially pure Sufi/Gurdjeiff theory: most humans are stumbling around in mutually-reinforcing trances, and it takes a great deal of effort, thought and time to escape from that trance.

transcendence through intuitive thinking
Logic alone is enough to increase the degree of objectivity because old assumptions are merely being taken toward increasingly intricate logical conclusions. Then progress is made into unexplored rather than unfathomable territories, and what increases is the refinement rather than evolution of knowledge. This is drawing a circle and pouring effort into exploring the bounded territory rather than widening the circle itself. As soon as the perimeter is drawn, everything within is already delineated. This forms the enclosed set from which any further discoveries are made, meaning such discoveries are far from new; they instead follow directly and predictably from the old. The process is deterministic, that is to say, the old directly determines the new. Those who cling solely to this objective approach are fortifying their ignorance when they stubbornly seek to justify existing assumptions and observations rather than revolutionize them with more expansive ones.
...
The road to transcendence is traveled via intuitive thinking, which may also be called nonlinear or nondeterministic thinking. Whereas deterministic thinking proceeds from the old to generate the new, meaning the new is just an extension of the old and therefore not new at all, intuitive thinking allows one to feel out the new and revise the old so that previous assumptions are overturned to become extensions of the new. Intuitive thinking is therefore the only way to reliably come up with anything truly new because it gives you newfound vision.

10,000 Heros: SRI and the manufacturing of the new age, part 3
The PP, say the Images authors, also suggests Human potential is limitless. “All knowledge, power and awareness are ultimately accessible to one’s consciousness.” The more one becomes aware of his or her “higher self” the more one is motivated to continue moving toward it. Ultimately, this leads to a sort of spiritual evolution as all of humankind moves toward higher consciousness.
Well that sounds great…sign me up! But just in case…just in case, mind you, this defense research agency with money from the guardians of the ruling class aren’t really interested in my spiritual awakening, we have to ask: Why?

Waking Up: selections from the book
With each surrender, of an aspect of our essential self, energy is taken from essence and channeled into supporting our developing personality. The original meaning of "persona"-a mask used by actors-is apropos here. Slowly we create a more and more comprehensive mask that is a socially approved presentation of ourselves, something that will get us acceptance and approval, something that makes us "normal", like everybody else. As we identify more and more completely with the mask, with personality, forget that we are acting a role and become the role, more and more of our natural energy goes into personality, and essence withers.

Asymmetric Warfare: causing incredible economic damage by simply smashing machines
In 1996, when I suggested to a crusty, old professor of mine that crude, physical attacks on electricity and communications infrastructures could cause economic damage on par with conventional military attacks, but at a fraction of the cost, both in terms of money and manpower required, he chuckled.
